The Yearning for Inner Peace

Have you ever felt a deep-seated longing for tranquility, ease, and stillness? Not just in your surroundings, but within yourself? This yearning has been a constant companion on my journey of self-discovery.

This yearning has stirred a curiosity. A fascination. A love. A steady, unwavering presence to this journey in which I learn to know myself.

To know myself in all the ways I ‘ve become aware of how I could possibly know myself: Mind-Body-Spirit-Heart, Materially and Interpersonally, Socially and Romantically, Intellectually and Comedically, as a citizen in a complex world, as a leader in my home

All the many, different ways.

It has and continues to be a quest to know who I am and to explore who I could be and to contemplate and to actively choose who I am.

It seems such a simple thing. This idea of knowing one’s Self. And yet, few things are more elusive than one’s Self.

I’ve learnt that to know my Self is a Privilege. Perhaps among the greatest of all privileges that have ever been visited upon me.

I’ve also learnt that it is a Skill. That unskillful seeking of self leads to hurt, trauma, disappointment, avoidance and shame.  And to Disconnection and Pain.

Along the way, I’ve come to appreciate that Awareness not only shapes relationship, but actually creates it.

And the quality of awareness determines the quality of relationship.

Always.

And with one’s Self, the quality of one’s Self-Awareness determines the quality of the relationship one gets to experience with one’s Self.

So I’d ask:

  • What is your relationship with yourself?
  • What is the quality of your self-awareness?
  • How skilled are you at practicing self-awareness?
  • Is self-awareness something you often prefer to avoid?

Self-awareness is said to be 80% of all transformation. And this is true of transformation of any sort.

  • Want to lose weight? Self-Awareness is critical to this transformation.
  • Want better health?
  • Want better relationships?
  • Want a life partner?
  • Want more romance?
  • Want more money?
  • Want a different job or career?
  • Want to learn something new?
  • Want financial independence?
  • Want to laugh more?
  • Want to kindle a sense of adventure?
  • Want ease, peace and wholeheartedness?

Every single change you could possibly contemplate begs for more skilled self-awareness. The more stuck you feel, the more vital it becomes that you stop to explore your internal world.

And yet, no-one ever tells us how

They tell us we need it.

The tell us to do it.

But they don’t tell us what it is, what it is not and how to actually perform it.

And so, instead of experiencing actual self-awareness, we regurgitate the same thoughts ad nauseum and box ourselves into identities and beliefs that no longer serve us.

And we adopt thoughts, ideas and concepts that float through our consciousness from every direction but from our Self.

And in this way, we never get to know our beautiful, glorious Self.

We rarely get to meet our heart.

And our desires remain a mirage we can never reach.

We ache to know our purpose and our passion. It feels like mist we can perceive, but not quite see. We can feel it; and yet it remains out of reach.

All because our Self has eluded us.

All because we are unpracticed at Self-Awareness.

All because the relationship we are in with ourselves is sporadic and erratic at best or wholly absent or traumatizing at worst.

If any of this rings true for you please join me in Seeking Self to explore:
