IT’s THAT TIME OF THE YEAR!

I love this time of the year! Don’t you you!!!

Maybe its the lazy mornings and the slow days. Maybe its the fact that there is little to no schedule regulating my life. It might have something to do with the sounds of kids splashing in water and running through sprinklers [sorry Capetonians. I know that the water shortage is dire].

Even if you’re holding the fort at work, you’ll agree, theres an ease you don’t find at other times of the year. There was this guy ringing off a transaction for me yesterday who wished me a very merry easter. His head and his heart was elsewhere. On holiday. Sheepishly, he confessed as much.

Anyway, I love this time of the year. The crazy is on pause and the atmosphere is pregnant with possibility, flush with hope and littered with wisdom. I take time out and think long and hard about what I hope for and dream of creating in the year to come.

I also invest in reflection time. What worked? What did’nt? What did I learn and where can I change course or even let go of something completely? Who did I become when the curve balls were lobbied in my direction and who will I have to become if any of my dreams are to be brought to fruition? These are just some of the thoughts that swirl around and around in my head. All this thinking and reflecting has loads of rituals; and loads writing! I wasn’t aware at first of these rituals, but over the years as I’ve reflected and pondered over my hopes and goals and achievements, Ive come to realise that virtually all of them have come to fruition. Sometimes through my effort and sometimes through the most surreal and serendipitous occurrences that logic simply cannot explain.

Sometimes, things happened that at first I thought were cataclysmic ….. but really, they were just detours in the direction of my dreams.

Thanks to my rituals of dreaming and reflecting, I started to recognise opportunities where otherwise I would only see murky indecipherable busyness and ‘stuff’. Thanks to these rituals and reflections I have had a clearer sense of what I would say yes to and what I would decline. Intuitively, Ive known what to prioritise and what to deprioritise. Consequently, I have experienced less busyness and greater productivity. Overall, I am calmer, less distracted and a lot more focused. Time is ubiquitous. It will not be managed. Ive leant that you can only ever manage your intentions, your energy and your focus.

Below I’ve attached a tool that I use to get the ball rolling. I use it at this time of year, and also at anytime that I start to feel unhinged, confused and derailed. It helps me to become clearer on my intentions. Its the first step toward my private true north.

If you’re unsure what you want and what you hope for, this tool will help you move out of the starting blocks. You won’t regret it.
